Extract Studio
Extract is a studio that inspires me through their use of typography and editorial designs to build brands across digital and print applications. Founded in 2010, the London-based design agency works with many leading brands such as Penguin Random House, Amazon, and the British Fashion Council.
Work that I’m drawn to is their brand identity and print and digital design for the fashion magazine 'Teeth.' The strong, considered art direction and image choice, I feel, make the brand feel very contemporary. This paired with strong editorial layouts makes the magazine like a collector’s item. The strong use of the serif typeface throughout the designs aligns well with the fashion industry and allows every spread to feel like an experience. This continues to the digital space, where the use of strong layouts allows the space for the art-directed imagery to speak for itself.
Extracts work on brand identity also feels very considered and well researched, for example, Jacada Travel branding. I find inspiring how much research goes into a single project and how the outcome becomes reflective of that input.
