Andrea Trabucco-Campos – Artificial Typography
Andrea Trabucco-Campos is an Italian-Colombian graphic and type designer whose work focuses on typography and systems. What draws me to his work is how he uses type to explore ideas, rather than just for function or decoration.
A project that stood out to me is Artificial Typography (v0). This book explores what happens when AI is used to generate letterforms, with each letter created in the style of different artists. The results are often abstract and unexpected, pushing the boundaries of what a letterform can be.
What is interesting is how the role of the designer shifts. Instead of fully creating the outcome, he acts more as a curator, selecting and shaping results from the AI. The final book brings together digital processes with a physical outcome.
I have been influenced by how experimental this project is. The typography is not always fully readable, but that adds to its impact. It has made me think more about how I can push type in my own work and focus more on concept, not just clarity.
