Haller Brun

On a recent trip to Amsterdam, I visited Haller Brun Studio, which I found really inspiring, especially because of my interest in editorial and book design. Being able to see the work in person made a big difference, as it showed how much detail and thought goes into each outcome, not just visually but physically as well.

What stood out to me most was how experimental the work felt. The books weren’t just laid out in a standard way but pushed through structure, pacing, and sequencing. It made each project feel more like an experience rather than just something to read. The typography and layouts felt very considered, which made the work more engaging.

I was also really interested in the physical side of the work. Things like paper choice, binding, and format clearly play a big role in the final outcome. It made me realise how important these decisions are and how they can completely change how a book is experienced.

Visiting the studio has made me think more about my own work, especially in how I approach print. It has encouraged me to push ideas further and think beyond just the layout, focusing more on the full experience of the outcome.
